Okay, I'm curious. 36 people (38%) voted against the Yankees on this one. What is your (their) rationale? We all know the arguments supporting yet another set of Yankee rings; what do you three dozen dissenters have that you think is even more compelling?
Note that "LaRussa RULZ" is cheerleading, not a rationale. |

Because the highest payroll team making the World Series isn't shocking or interesting to watch (unless you're a fan of the team). They didn't make the playoffs last year, so they spent money on three free agents that rival 30% of total team salaries.
But the luxury tax keeps it fair, right Mr. Selig? |

So all six playoff teams are in the top 10 of payroll for the league. . .what's the point here. . .sure the yankees spent the most, but all 6 teams had payroll in excess of 100 million dollars. . .they're all attempting to "buy" this championship. . .and it doesnt always work out. . .the Mets and the Cubs had the second and third highest payrolls and we know how that worked out. . .

But only one has a payroll in excess of 200 million dollars (50% more than the next closest team).

I still don't see how the salary issue affects status as "the team to beat". It sounds as if some of you think votes were taken from the Yankees based solely on their payroll.
Of course teams are trying to buy the best team, ever since Wayne Huizenga demonstrated how effective it can be (Marlins' Series rings). Many different factors help to win titles; money is a huge one, as it's pretty effective at getting raw talent.
I still say that the Yankees were the team to beat as of the end of the regular season. The current Series is evidence (not proof) of their ability, so I'm still open to ideas as to why other teams might have been "the team to beat". If the Yankees were invulnerable, they wouldn't have three playoff losses already. |

Probably has to do with the fact that no matter what the poll, some of us will NEVER vote for the Yankees. Congrats to the Yankees fans on another win.

| That's not necessarily voting for the Yankees: just that they're the team you have to crawl over to get the pennant. I'm sure the 2004 Red Sox found it very satisfying to rip the heart out of the Bronx and nail it to the Green Monster. |
